Grassy Head

A short hop up the Macleay Valley Coast brought us to the picturesque, unspoilt Grassy Head. Home of Helen's infamous Oz travel partner from 1990; Sue, and her husband Bruce.

Incredible hosts, great guides to the local area and boasting a garden full of fresh veggies and a family of chefs to cook them. Our stay with Sue & Bruce was all too brief!

The birds! All spotted around the beautiful garden.
Rainbow Lorikeets
Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo
Little Wattlebird
Scarlet Honeyeater

Welcome to Grassy Head beach. Early morning swims and runs across an almost always deserted stretch of squeaky white sand. Wild and stunning.

Bruce took his tour duties very seriously, driving us up the beach and regailing us with tales of headstrong chumps who had driven their brand new utes straight into the sea and had to abonden ship!

Punchy radish straight from the garden

On a giant tree and leech expedition in Yarriabini National Park.

On a clear day the lookout affords magnificent coastal views to the Macleay River estuary and Trial Bay

Yarriabini, meaning 'koala rolling', is the Aboriginal name for the prominent coastal mountain that dominates the park, also known as Mount Yarrahapinni. This area is an important part of a cultural "Dreaming" story marked by mosaic monuments.

Next stop, Casa El Mago y Gabriella!
